Earl Brooks is a highly respected businessman and was recently named Portland's Man of the Year. He hides a terrible secret however: he is a serial killer known as the Fingerprint Killer. He has been attending AA meetings and has kept his addiction to killing under control for two years now but his alter ego, Marshall, has re-appeared and is pushing him to kill again. When he does kill a couple while they are making love, he is seen and photographed by someone who also his own death and murder fetish. In a parallel story, the police detective investigating the murder is having problems of her own. She is going through a messy divorce and a violent criminal who had vowed revenge some years before has escaped from prison and is after her.

I liked this film, Kevin Costner and William Hurt, I had to believe all the way. Even death as a force, I felt a great connection and sympathy for his characters. There was argument for intelligent dialogue between them and they really had a great chemistry. The only reason why this Mr. Brooks Mystery was 6 points was Demi Moore. She came along as this supercop - who seemed to know everything before it happened. If she should have made it clear psychological - there is no detective in the real or imagined has been good. If you put Columbo with a Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew Angela Lansbury launched that would not have been half as insightful character of Moore. His know-it-all arrogance and his performance was super hard laughable. If you do yoga, but you can not fight a hardened criminal prison with his arms tied behind his back. Well, at least, I can not. It would have been a great film: Mr. Brooks ... well ...

"Mr. Brooks" is not a typical film: Mr. Brooks serial murderer. I can not remember a DVD film Mr. Brooks that says a lot about the history of the murderers viewpoint. A murderer who seems so normal. That ingredient is the most frightening of the film. Although a bit obsessive compulsive Mr.Brooks is terribly normal. The major players seem to be enjoying themselves. I do not remember Kevin Costner in a role before. He is totally credible. William Hurt is over the top as the dark side of Earl Brooks. I smell an academy nomination here. "Mr. Brooks" is not a perfect movie, but I think it will be entertained by a strong story and performances that are way above average.
